“Letters” and “Flags” to Compete?

Variety posted a nice article about the question of how to market two films with a release date so close together. The article also mentions the fact that Eastwood came up with doing “Letters from Iwo Jima” while filming “Flags of Our Fathers”.

Other interesting items mentioned was how big the Japanese movie market is, especially if there’s a film related to Japan (The Last Samurai grossed $115 in Japan, compared to $111 in the US).

However, the most interesting item is the thought of whether “Flags” will be competing with “Letters” come Oscar time. Is this or good for both films? Let us know what you think.
